Drop us a line on Twitter. ![]() Perhaps there’ll be some special edition gadgets to mark the occasion? According to The Verge report, Microsoft is planning a special event to commemorate ten years of Surface products. The new operating system will be available as a free upgrade for eligible Windows 10 PCs, or on new hardware that ships with Windows 11 pre-loaded. The release will also set the stage for some new Surface hardware expected to arrive before the end of the year. Microsoft is announcing that Windows 11 will be released on October 5th. It’s almost a year since Microsoft surprisingly announced Windows 11, after hinting Windows 10 would be the last major named version that would continue to be updated periodically. Some of these features may launch after the initial Windows 11 22H2 release, but they’re definitely planned for this cycle. Microsoft is also improving accessibility with a Live Captions feature, while users will be able to better control the PC with their voice. There’s also macOS-like Tabs within the File Explorer view, as well as the long overdue integration of OneDrive files. There’ll be app folders within the Start menu, the ability to drag and drop items within he taskbar, and a resizable area to pin items to the Start Menu, for starters. Microsoft has been robustly testing the latest Windows 11 features with users throughout 2022, so we pretty much know what to expect when 22H2 drops. ![]()
